VIENNALE 2016

I have to apologize at this point but i feel like writing this post in German.

Viennale 2015

its this time of year again! Vienna turns into a huge screen for national and international projections! Every now and again, time plays a special role. Today, as we hold this press conference for the Viennale 2015, the city is facing a crucial election. We announce a festival that will begin once this election is decided. Without being overdramatic, it feels a bit as if we were in an interim time, in a transitory state. This situation also reflects how important it is to defend a cause and a form at any time. Or, as a wise man once said: “to let neither the power of others, nor our own powerlessness, stupefy us.” Or as another one sang, “The Time is Always now.” As the innovations we introduced last year have proven to be successful (the extension of the festival by one day and adding the new Eric Pleskow cinema hall in the Metro Kinokulturhaus as a venue), we have decided to stick to these changes. Moreover, the festival will take place in familiar fashion in the long-est...

Gruber geht.

John Gruber is in his mid-thirties. He lives a fast, pricey, and egocentric life in the finest district of Vienna. Businesstrips to Switzerland and  hook-ups with the hottest women in town ,just to forget their names the next morning, is his daily life. If there was an Award for being Anti-family/social/assholy, Jonny Gruber would probably win every category. Unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer, he is thrown off track; also by the involuntary bearer of the news: Sarah, a DJ from Berlin, who is actually not really his type and he got to know on a businesstrip as a ONS. But it will no longer be a short encounter - their paths will cross more often then they thought. Normally Gruber has no need for emotions – but suddenly, without being asked, they pop out of the sealed coffins he strained them to. I had the pleasure of seeing this motion picture by Marie Kreutzer at the DIAGONALE 2015 in Graz. I have to be honest that did not expect something...

HOMME LESS

"Welcome to Manhattan... welcome to my place" Mark Reay introduced the documentary about his life with these first two sentences. He's sitting on the top of the house he lives in or actually... on. Mark works as streestyle and fashion photographer in New York City one of the biggest Fashion-capitals in the world. He works with Agencies like Wilhelmina Models or IMG Models, is invited to hip parties and fancy cocktails. A Suit and button down shirt are his daily attire. There is only one thing which does not fit the fashionable perfect picture - Mark is Homeless. Mark lives on the Rooftops of New York buildings. Mark looks stunning (52 years old) for his age. He has a very lively personality and his social skills are a perfect tool to get along with - and needed - to be able to work in an industry like fashion. He shoots for Magazines like ELLE Korea and DAZED AND CONFUSED. I kinda thought that his documentary by Thomas Wirthen...

DIAGONALE 2015

Filmstill by Virgil Widrich Main Sujet of the Diagonale 2015 staring the grand Delphine Seyrig After regretting SO much that i was not able to attend last years DIAGONALE in Graz i am stoked about going this year! My favorite (Austrian) Filmfestival will take place from the 17th of March to the 22nd. This years festival edition for the last time under direction of Ms. Barbara Pichler promises a variation and some extraordinary surprises. (if one can trust the official press release) When recently enjoyed his moderation a lot at the Austrian Movie Awards at the Rathaus i am sure will do so again with his new motion picture which will star as opening film this year. Karl Markovics SUPERWELT . The Diagonale is conceived as a forum for the presentation and discussion of Austrian cinematic production.  The goal and task of the Diagonale is a nuanced, multifaceted and critical exploration of Austrian cinema as well as drawing the industry into the media spo...

Der ÖSTERREICHISCHE FILMPREIS 2015

Its a wrap. The Austrian Movie Awards 2015 are history. Starting with obvious favorites on to finding "Mundls" Iphone on his empty seat it was a very nice experience and i want to thank ANNA SPANLANG for giving me the opportunity -again- to be part of it! My Friend Hannah an myself attended the Austrian movie awards last wednesday at the RATHAUS in Vienna. A beautiful and better location then last year. Who ever has been tot he Rathaus will agree that its probably on of the three best locations to host a Gala. The 5th Austrian Movie Awards celebrated their "Kindergarten" birthday as the host of the evening KARL MARKOVICS described it. Humorous as always he led through the evening provoking mr Andreas Mailath-Pokorny (City councillor for cultural affairs) and confronting him to give more sponsored space to people in Film such as studios, offices etc and causing the audience to laugh no only about his kinda funny but not Joke about two goats eating the script o...

YOUKI WORKSHOP - THE FACES

So today i was asked to hold a workshop at the YOUKI FILMFESTIVAL today in Wels. Wels is where i spent most of my childhood and it was quite interesting coming back to this city and this festival which i visited while i went to "Hauptschule" here. Hey guys this is just to show you what we did during our Workshop at the YOUKI FESTIVAL in Wels! On this picture you see little Rhabarbi and me (we were the first to take the picture cause the others were to shy ;) ). So guys meet Ana(13) and Ramona(13) from Wels. Ramona loves to shop and likes sketching fashion in her free time. Once she is done with school she wants to pursue being a nurse at a mental health facility in Linz. Why? because this kind of work fascinates her and she can imagine having a lot of fun there. This is Joan (15). Creativity, fashion, film and music are the main interests of this young man from Thalheim. He came to YOUKI FILMFESTIVAL to share and get inspired by...

Berlinale 2014 presents "Kreuzweg"

So it was wednesday afternoon when my friend Jacky from Berlin (she manages "The Edged Showroom" there) contacted me concerning Outfits for a french actress. Lucie Aron - a beautiful french actress from paris was invited to attend the Berlinale. On the RED CARPET for the first time. So because Mark&Julia are friends with the team from Edged and because Jacky knows that we know how to work professional ;) i got in the last train to Berlin packed with a huge black suitcase full of gowns to wear for various Press events but also Red-Carpet Looks. I arrived at Berling Hauptbahnhof at 9:30 - the train ride wasn't that bad actually :) from the trainstation we drove straight to Lucies Appartment for a first fitting. Poor lucie was all excited and nervous (totally understandable). But its always like that with people who know they have to stand in front of the international Press. Good thing Mr. Marky here knows exactly how to calm you down ;)  ...

Austrian Film Awards 2014

So i was invited to attend this years austrian Film Awards. Had no idea what would await me or how this "Gala" evening would turn out. my make-up and hair for the evening.  I used MAC cosmetics and Kèrsastase styling Products What should i say, with austrian Filmmakers its kinda like with austria its self. Very subtil and a fast "get it over with so that we can finally clear the bar" attitude ;) Ursular Strauss & Stefan Ruzowitzky gave a introduction and talked about the Budget shortening (of 50%) for austrian film as FATAL to the local film-industry. But this is not a bad thing as i see it. The Award show was hosted by  one of my favorite actors Karl Markovic - he did a really good job (quite the goat jokes next time, not so funny). One must say that most of the people present hat excellent taste in fashion especially Julia Cepp (she won best Costume with SHIRLEY, VISIONS OF REALITY) wore a lovely black fringe dres...

All eyes on...

...Florian Rottensteiner For you who read my blog (is there someone reading my blog haha) you probably have noticed my enthusiasm for Florian Rottensteiner. I am big fan of his paintings. We have one big one hanging on the wall in our atelier. Since some weeks now Florian has also been producing performance-videos. These motion pictures amused me at first - i thought it will be a onetime thing only - but he posted some more. I find these videos so strong and personal they pick up topics in Flos life (i guess) and typical - mainly viennese clichés of the daily life as an artist. Florian says about his art that is pure emotion. While he is painting a picture or working on a new project - he packs every feeling into it. Laughter, Tears, sorrow, happiness. Once he is finished he feels a kind of freedom or relief. Here are my favorite Videos!   and about this next video. It brought me to tears. i seldom saw a performance/video so clos...
